Bought or sold a car that won't run? How Dave's Towing moves non-running vehicles across Calgary safely. Open 24/7. Call 403-272-3944.

You found the right car on a classified site, or you finally sold the old sedan that's been parked beside the garage for three winters. There's just one problem: it doesn't run. Whether the engine is seized, the battery died long ago or the transmission gave up, a non-running vehicle still has to get from one driveway to another. Dave’s Towing moves cars like this around Calgary all the time, and a little planning makes the day go a lot smoother for the buyer, the seller and the tow operator.
There's no single rule here, so it's worth agreeing on it before money changes hands. In most private sales the buyer arranges the tow, because they know where the vehicle is going, whether that's a home garage in Tuscany, a mechanic in Forest Lawn or a storage spot out past Stoney Trail. Sellers sometimes book it as part of the deal, especially when they need the car gone by a set date.
Whoever books it, make sure both people know the pickup time and that someone with the keys will be there. A tow truck waiting at a locked gate in a back lane helps nobody.
Before the vehicle leaves, the buyer and seller should take care of the sale paperwork, such as a bill of sale and anything else a registry agent tells you that you'll need. Rules about registration, plates and transfers are set by the province, so check with an Alberta registry agent if you're not sure what applies to your situation. We're happy to tow the car, but we can't advise on the paperwork side of a sale.
It's also smart to take a few photos of the vehicle's condition at pickup. That's useful for both people if questions come up later.
The more we know up front, the better we can match the truck to the job. When you call, have these details ready:
A car that has been sitting for years can surprise you. Brakes can seize, tires can go flat and mice sometimes move in. If you haven't moved it in a while, tell us. That's exactly the kind of thing that decides whether we bring a flatbed tow truck, dollies or a winch.
Many non-running cars are best moved on a flatbed, where the whole vehicle rides on the deck and nothing touches the road. That is often the safest choice for AWD vehicles, cars with locked wheels and anything with low clearance. Other cars can be moved with a wheel-lift and dollies.
If the car is buried in snow, stuck in soft ground on an acreage near Bearspaw or Priddis, or parked where it can't simply be rolled onto the truck, our winching and recovery service can pull it out to a spot where it can be loaded safely.
Not every non-running car is a beater. Barn finds, project cars and classics often need extra care with their low bumpers, fragile trim and old chrome. If you've bought something special, let us know so we can plan the loading properly. Our exotic and classic car transport is built for exactly these vehicles.
Whether you're the buyer or the seller, Dave’s Towing can move your non-running car anywhere in Calgary and the surrounding area, from Airdrie to Okotoks. We're open 24/7. Call 403-272-3944 with the vehicle details and both addresses, or visit our contact page to get in touch.
