A practical checklist for the first minutes after a collision and when a tow may be needed.
If you can do so safely, get yourself and passengers away from immediate traffic hazards. Use hazard lights and follow instructions from emergency responders when they are present.
When safe, record basic details and photos that may be useful later. Avoid standing in active traffic lanes to take pictures.
Tell the towing company whether airbags deployed, wheels are damaged, fluids are leaking, the vehicle can roll or steer, and where you want it transported.
You may need the vehicle moved to a repair facility, secure location or another destination. Confirm the destination before the tow begins whenever possible.
